Aloha!

Welcome to the Earvin "Magic" Johnson fantasy basketball league. I met Magic once, back in the 1980s, during an autograph session at Robin's shoe store in Ala Moana.

Magic was scheduled to appear for one hour, but the line stretched clear across Ala Moana and all the way to Sears. Roughly a quarter-mile. Magic stayed for three hours and was accomodating, his usual generous self the whole time. Magic had and still has what can only be described as a true aloha spirit for all people, especially kids.

When my turn to get the Converse poster and his autograph arrived, he said, "What's up, big man? What's your name?" I could barely speak. He was so amazing, this tall dude with magical basketball skills, able to play center and point guard in the NBA at a Hall of Fame level. And he had the skinniest calves I'd ever seen. You can't really tell from watching the NBA on TV. Up close, he was just a phenomenal athlete and person.

So, in his honor, this is the second season of the Magic Johnson League. May the fun and memories tip off!
